News from Geophysics

The drilling for shallow geothermal operations for the Wel-T Geo4D project is nearly completed on at Usquare in Brussels, among others in collaboration with Batir-Pierre Gérard (Polytech ULB). Fibers are being installed and data have started to be recorded. Corentin went on a mission to Central America (photos above and below) to elaborate new projects in Nicaragua, Guatemala and Costa Rica… stay tuned!

Alec and Jonas have been monitoring a geyser in Iceland and Julien and Jonas (FWO funded project) are getting ready for a long summer mission in Iceland to explore glaciers, volcanoes and geothermal areas with our set of geophones, FBG and DAS interrogators, as well as infrasound and hydrophones.

 
In June, we have tested our HDAS at De Panne on a beach in collaboration with UGent which was conducting Electrical Resistivity measurements alongside to investigate the influence of shallow clay lenses on the freshwater outflow on the coast. Jonas and Corentin are attending one of the first European workshop on fiber optic sensing in the wonderful Catania.

 
 
We are also trying to confirm our preliminary results on bubble detection using fibers in a more controlled environnement than Laacher See volcanic lake… a swimming pool!
